"Chemical Engineer" (NEBOSH)

Role Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Chemical Engineer with a strong background in process design, optimization, and a proven dedication to Process Safety Management (PSM). The ideal candidate holds a NEBOSH certification, demonstrating a formal and robust understanding of health, safety and environmental risk management. You will serve as a critical link between engineering and HSE functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement improvements to chemical processes and equipment to enhance yield, quality, and efficiency.
  • Conduct process simulations, data analysis, and troubleshooting to resolve operational issues.
  • Apply NEBOSH principles to proactively identify, assess, and control workplace hazards.
  • Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies.
  • Manage and update critical safety documentation, including COSHH assessments, Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and Safety Cases.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant HSE legislation (e.g., COMAH, OSHA PSM standard, EPA regulations).
  • Ensure all process activities adhere to environmental permits and regulations.
  • Support the site's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint through waste minimization and energy efficiency projects.
  • Promote a strong process safety culture across the operations and engineering teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Min. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (or a closely related field) from a reputed university.
  • Minimum of 04 years of post-graduate experience in a chemical process industry (e.g., chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas, food & beverage).
  • Mandatory possession of a NEBOSH Certificate (National or International General Certificate).
  • Proven, hands-on experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) frameworks and tools (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, Management of Change).
  • Strong technical knowledge of unit operations, reaction engineering and thermodynamics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a data-driven, analytical approach.

Desirable Skills

  • NEBOSH Diploma or other advanced HSE certification.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Experience with process modelling software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD).
  • Knowledge of COMAH regulations (for UK-based roles).
  • Project management experience.
