The Commis I – Pastry assists the pastry kitchen in the preparation, production, and presentation of desserts, breads, and baked goods within a luxury hotel environment. This role emphasizes precision, consistency, and adherence to the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and presentation expected in a five-star setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior pastry chefs with the preparation and production of desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked items
- Perform assigned pastry tasks with accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency
- Follow standardized recipes, portion controls, and presentation guidelines
- Prepare mise en place efficiently to support smooth daily operations and service
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper upkeep of pastry workstations and equipment
- Comply strictly with food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards
- Store ingredients and finished products correctly, ensuring proper labeling and stock rotation
- Support seamless pastry operations during service periods and special events
- Collaborate effectively with other kitchen sections and team members
- Participate actively in ongoing training and skill development within the pastry department
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience as a Commis I – Pastry or in a similar role within a luxury hotel or resort
- Basic understanding of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert presentation
- Pastry or culinary certificate/diploma preferred, or equivalent professional experience
- Food Safety and Hygiene certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment
- Strong focus on cleanliness, organization, and precision
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
