Commodity Buyer

Position Summary: The Commodity Buyer is responsible for overseeing sourcing initiatives, managing supplier relationships, and executing procurement activities for manufacturing operations. This position plays an important part in maintaining supply continuity, controlling expenditures, and ensuring purchasing decisions are consistent with business objectives.

  • Identify, assess and onboard suppliers in line with company policies and compliance standards
  • Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and internal stakeholders
  • Solicit, analyze, and negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other contractual conditions
  • Monitor commodity markets, forecast price movements, and provide insights to guide purchasing strategies, budgeting, and risk planning
  • Act as a key escalation point for pricing, lead times, and quality issues while collaborating with cross-functional teams both locally and globally
  • Evaluate supplier performance, resolve conflicts or delivery concerns, and ensure adherence to contractual, legal, ethical, and sustainability requirements
  • Collaborate with global and local teams to align procurement activities with company objectives.
  • Prepare regular reports on supplier performance, cost savings, and market trends, while supporting financial planning and forecasting
  • Perform additional tasks and support initiatives as required by the Purchasing Manger


Education/Experience:

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, purchasing, logistics, or a related field is required, along with two or more years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience); additionally, experience in commodity buying or strategic sourcing—preferably within a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Computer Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Possess basic knowledge of SAP.

Certificates and Licenses:

None required for this role.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Travel:

This role involves approximately 15% domestic travel and may include international travel. Overnight stays may be required based on project requirements or meeting locations.
