Intern with TxDOT’s Website Services team in the Communications Division, based in the Pharr District, and contribute to an award‑winning group dedicated to keeping Texans informed through the agency’s primary digital platform, TxDOT.gov. This paid internship offers hands‑on experience working alongside specialists in accessibility, CMS administration, analytics, UI development, SEO, and more, allowing you to support critical digital communications that directly impact communities across the Rio Grande Valley.

Position Description


The communications intern works with the Pharr District public information office to support TxDOT's mission and goals in the Rio Grand Valley.
Please note that while technical skills are appreciated, a willingness to learn and an interest in websites and digital communications is most valuable.

Essential Duties:
  • Assists in writing and editing social media posts, news releases, media advisories and other project related materials.
  • Performs preliminary research on assignments; gathers pertinent data.
  • Assists in the creation of informational slides and other informational materials.
  • Helps update internal/external websites as needed.
  • Attends meetings and events as assigned.
  • Maintains files/records/logs and performs other data entry tasks as needed.
  • Performs routine word processing duties; edits and proofs own work.
  • Runs errands as required.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.

Other Conditions:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.


Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • An eagerness to learn from experts across different fields
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Established skills in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience working with content management systems
  • Demonstrated the ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team environment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes

  • Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

  • Sitting - prolonged periods of time

  • Standing-prolonged periods of time

  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers

  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
