Community Engagement Manager

Position Summary: Reporting to the Hotline's Senior Director, the Community Engagement Manager will lead National Abortion Hotline community outreach and visibility efforts with a focus on strengthening trust, awareness, and collective impact by building meaningful partnerships with peer organizations, community stakeholders, and expanding the Hotline’s core patient-focused services through program improvements and expansions. This role will collaborate with internal teams at NAF and NAH, including Development, Communications, and IT, and manage the NAH Community Engagement Team. Within the first year, this role will be expected to, in collaboration with the Hotline’s Senior Director, engage with a market research campaign to identify brand growth opportunities, establish a social media presence, and develop a strategy for expanding community engagement both through digital and in person opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Engagement Strategy
  • Directs and oversees day-to-day operations of the NAH Community Engagement Team.
  • Identifies, plans, and coordinates all community engagement programs and opportunities for NAH.
  • Develops and leads creative campaigns and story-sharing initiatives to deepen community connection.
  • Participates in a market research campaign to identify key Hotline constituencies and improve services.
  • Engages and collaborates across NAH and NAF teams to ensure messaging is consistent, values-aligned, and centered on patient access and organizational priorities.
  • Designs and implements strategies, in collaboration with NAH, Development, Communications, and IT, to grow awareness, engage and retain small-dollar donors and improve NAH brand recognition with a focus on patient access.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Social Media & Digital Engagement
  • Develops and implements a bold, consistent social media strategy to grow awareness, engagement, and use of the National Abortion Hotline and its patient support services in collaboration with NAH, Communications, and IT.
  • Creates and curates compelling, on-brand content across major social media platforms (Instagram, Threads, TikTok, etc.) that drives engagement and increases awareness of National Abortion Hotline services.
  • Tracks social analytics to assess performance, inform content strategy, and drive engagement.
  • Establishes and monitors KPIs to evaluate the success of community engagement strategies and digital campaigns.
  • Maintains, updates, and modernizes all Hotline web platforms, including, but not limited to, the National Abortion Hotline website and Patient Chat feature, in collaboration with the NAF IT, Innovation, and Communications teams.
  • Collaborates with Hotline Leadership and the NAF IT, Innovation, and Communications teams to develop technology platforms, including the patient chat feature and the Hotline Salesforce platform database, which expands and improves patient services.
Movement & Community Partnerships
  • Builds and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with local and national partners, coalitions, and allied organizations in collaboration with the NAF Membership team.
  • Represents the Hotline in working groups, virtual events, and campaigns.
  • Identifies and develops learning and engagement opportunities, in collaboration with the NAF Learning Team, for Hotline staff including training and professional development opportunities.
  • Assumes responsibility within the role to foster a culture of equity, inclusion, belonging, and accountability.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or Public Relations preferred; relevant experience is valued in lieu of a degree.
  • Two (2)+ years of experience in community engagement, social media strategy, communications, development, or project management
  • Two (2)+ years of experience managing a team including professional development, identifying KPIs, and developing strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and a proven ability to create impactful digital content and grow audiences.
  • Experience using and working with visual content creation (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools) and social media analytics platforms (Hootsuite, Spout Social, or similar tools)
  • Dynamic written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, with an authentic, equity-centered voice.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across diverse communities and organizations
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, with an ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing and available to work flexible hours to support operational needs.
  • Commitment to and knowledge of abortion access, health equity, and the mission of NAF
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and strong commitment to abortion access, NAF’s mission, and organizational values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism.
ADA Specifications:
  • Normal demands associated with an office environment and remote-based work environment.
  • Ability to work on computer for prolonged periods, communicate with individuals by telephone, e-mail, face-to face and video conferencing technologies.
  • Must be able to travel may be required up to 50% of the time to support operational needs.
