Cost Control Engineer

A Cost Control Engineer in building construction manages financial performance throughout the project lifecycle — from budgeting and tendering to execution and final account closure.

Key Responsibilities

1 Budgeting & Estimation

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates
  • Develop project budgets
  • Analyze drawings and BOQs (Bill of Quantities)
  • Support tender pricing

2 Cost Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track actual cost vs. budget
  • Prepare cost reports (weekly/monthly)
  • Monitor cash flow
  • Identify cost overruns early

3 Variation & Change Management

  • Evaluate variation orders
  • Price change requests
  • Assess financial impact of design changes

4 Procurement Support

  • Analyze subcontractor quotations
  • Perform cost comparisons
  • Support contract negotiations

5 Risk & Value Engineering

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis
  • Support value engineering workshops

6 Final Accounts

  • Prepare final project cost statement
  • Reconcile budgets vs. actual costs
  • Assist in claim settlement Required Skills Technical Skills
