JOB DESCRIPTION:


Primary Purpose: To facilitate the teaching and learning process within a positive learning environment (in-person, distance and/or virtual) so that students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for them to become responsible, contributing adults in a democratic society.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management
  • Implement federal, state, and district guidelines determining and providing supports to students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
  • Enhance the academic growth of students using effective teaching practices as utilized in the instructional model.
  • Guide the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum and IEP goals.
  • Employ the instructional methods and resources that are most appropriate for meeting student needs.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.
  • Collect data and monitor student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required.
  • Have knowledge of learning disabilities and seek the assistance of district specialists on a regular basis.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students and/or parents regarding student achievement and the instructional program.
  • Provide in-person and/or virtual classroom management using reasonable rules and regulations.
School/Organizational Climate
  • Create an in-person and/or virtual classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Implement the LCISD philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules according to administrative regulations and Board Policies.
Personnel Management
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s), and collaborate with department heads and/or grade level leaders, evaluate their job performance.
  • Work collaboratively with administrators to oversee the responsibilities of the paraprofessional in implementing student programs.
  • Provide training for paraprofessionals regarding data collection, and implementation of specific instructional strategies.
Administrative Duties
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Prepare documents and attend ARD/IEP meetings for students eligible for Special Education.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and related service staff to develop PLAAFP and annual goals/objectives for IEPs and to assist in providing an appropriate education for eligible students.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Attend district required and job specific trainings and staff development.
  • Accept responsibility for professional growth through workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
  • Attend staff development as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Superintendent.
  • Stay current on Special Education laws and information through research and readings.
School/Community Relations
  • Be available in-person, by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel, students and/or parents.
  • Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis via phone, video conference, email, or district-approved website.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educationally related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
Other
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Attendance at work is an essential function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Superintendent.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise teacher aides and volunteers as assigned
  • Supervise students

EXPERIENCE:


QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate or teaching certificate from out of state appropriate for position
  • Must meet requirements for highly qualified teachers
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Effective communication skills/collaborative working style
  • Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms
  • Ability to exercise effective teaching practices appropriate for assigned modality
  • Ability to support students with computer setup, navigation, and technology issues if assigned to distance and/or virtual instruction
  • Expertise in one or more academic areas and/or developmental age group or population
  • CPI certified or ability to receive and maintain CPI certification as needed per program requirement
