Debt Collection Officer

Job Summary:

The Debt Collection Officer is responsible for ensuring timely collection of outstanding payments from clients or customers. This role involves following up on overdue accounts, negotiating repayment plans, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with company policies and legal regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

· Contact customers via phone, email, or written correspondence to follow up on outstanding invoices or overdue payments.

· Negotiate and arrange payment plans or settlements in line with company policies.

· Maintain detailed and accurate records of all collection activities and customer interactions.

· Monitor aging reports and ensure follow-up on all delinquent accounts.

· Collaborate with internal departments (Finance, Sales, Customer Service) to resolve billing disputes or discrepancies.

· Escalate accounts for legal action when necessary and coordinate with legal teams on debt recovery processes.

· Prepare and submit regular reports on collection performance and outstanding accounts.

· Ensure compliance with financial regulations, data privacy laws, and ethical collection practices.

· Maintain professional communication to preserve customer relationships while ensuring timely recovery.

· Achieve monthly collection targets as set by management.

Qualifications & Skills:

· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.

· Experience: 2–4 years of experience in debt collection, credit control, or accounts receivable.

· Skills:

o Strong negotiation and communication skills.

o Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping.

o Ability to handle difficult conversations tactfully and professionally.

o Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and accounting/ERP systems.

o Knowledge of collection laws and credit procedures.
