Director of Human Resources

Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources leads all human resources strategy and operations at a high level. This role partners directly with the Owner/Operator to ensure legal compliance, minimize employment risk, strengthen team culture, and oversee all core HR systems including hiring, onboarding, off-boarding, talent strategy, recruiting, training, performance management, benefits, and risk mitigation. The HR Director serves as the primary advisor on employment matters and organizational workforce strategy.


Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Advise Owner/Operator on HR strategy, workforce planning, and organizational development.
  • Enhance, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain employee handbook and compliance standards.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, engagement, and legal compliance.

Talent Acquisition & Hiring

  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment: sourcing, interviewing, selection, and hiring.
  • Manage applicant tracking and ensure compliant, non-discriminatory hiring practices.
  • Enhance recruiting strategies to attract and retain high-quality talent.

Onboarding & Off-boarding

  • Lead structured onboarding to ensure strong integration and retention.
  • Ensure proper completion and retention of employment documentation (I-9, W-4, policy acknowledgments).
  • Conduct exit interviews and manage compliant separation processes.
  • Oversee terminations with appropriate documentation and risk controls.

Training & Development

  • Support Team Member and Leadership training programs.
  • Ensure compliance training is current and documented.
  • Support development of performance standards and Leadership development pathways.

Performance Management

  • Administer structured performance review processes.
  • Train Leadership on coaching, corrective action, and documentation.
  • Ensure fair, consistent, and legally defensible disciplinary practices.

Benefits Administration

401(k) Management

  • Oversee plan administration and compliance.
  • Coordinate with third-party administrators and ensure fiduciary oversight.

Insurance & Open Enrollment

  • Manage health and supplemental benefits programs.
  • Lead annual open enrollment and employee communications.
  • Evaluate coverage options with brokers to manage cost and risk.

PTO & Leave Administration

  • Administer PTO policies and accrual compliance.
  • Manage FMLA eligibility, documentation, and return-to-work procedures.
  • Oversee ADA accommodations and other protected leave matters.

Employment Law Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, wage & hour regulations).
  • Conduct and document internal investigations related to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and misconduct.
  • Maintain thorough documentation to mitigate legal exposure.

Risk Management & EPLI Advisory

  • Advise Owner/Operator regarding Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI).
  • Help hedge risk related to harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, wage disputes, and third-party employment claims.
  • Partner with legal counsel and insurance providers as needed.
  • Implement preventative training and documentation standards to reduce liability.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as confidential advisor to Leadership and Team Members.
  • Mediate workplace conflicts.
  • Promote a respectful, compliant, and performance-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • 7–10+ years progressive HR Leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of employment law and compliance practices.
  • Experience in benefits administration and 401(k) oversight.
  • Proven experience handling investigations and high-risk employ

Pay: $70000.00 - $75000.00 / year
