OPTIMUM CONSTRUCTION, INC. is one of New England's foremost construction managers and general contractors with a broad portfolio of projects for commercial, corporate, healthcare, housing and institutional clients.

Our team is growing. Optimum is hiring a full-time ESTIMATOR to join our Preconstruction department. The Estimator will support and contribute to budgeting, estimating, bid coordination and pricing efforts across a variety of projects. This role is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in construction and preconstruction and enjoys organized, detail-oriented, collaborative work.

The ideal candidate is organized, curious, dependable and proactive. Candidates may come from a range of backgrounds, including estimating, project coordination, field operations, internships, or other construction-related experience and we welcome applicants with varying levels of experience.

Reporting to the Director of Preconstruction, the Estimator will support the Preconstruction team with reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating bid outreach, organizing project information, supporting estimate development and maintaining clear communication with subcontractors, vendors and internal team members.

Essential Functions

  • Support budgeting, estimating and bid coordination activities on multiple projects.
  • Review plans and specifications and help organize project information for estimating purposes.
  • Prepare and/or support the preparation and distribution of bid packages to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Follow up with subcontractors and vendors to help ensure strong bid coverage.
  • Coordinate site visits and preconstruction meetings as needed during the bid process.
  • Maintain current plans, specifications and addenda throughout preconstruction.
  • Assist with organizing and comparing subcontractor and vendor proposals for review.
  • Support and/or participate in estimate development, proposal preparation, scope review and scope clarifications.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal team members.
  • Use and continue building proficiency with estimating and project management software as part of daily work.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and support continuous improvement of preconstruction processes.
  • Depending on experience, take on increasing responsibility in budgeting, subcontractor outreach, scope analysis and estimate development.

Qualifications

  • Experience in construction, estimating, project coordination, field operations or a related field.
  • Candidates with a range of experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • Estimating experience is helpful but not required.
  • Interest in construction and the preconstruction process.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, dependable and willing to take initiative.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Comfort with technology and willingness to learn tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Procore and related software.
  • Good judgment, professionalism and a customer-service mindset when working with internal and external partners.
