The Role
As a Facilities Maintenance Worker, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing City buildings to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained public facilities. This position performs a variety of maintenance and repair tasks including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC maintenance, and general facility upkeep. This role will be primarily assigned to support operations and maintenance at the City’s Aquatics facilities.
The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of facilities or building maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work collaboratively while fostering a culture based on integrity and respect. You will work closely with Parks & Recreation, Facilities staff, and other City departments to support the safe operation of City facilities.
Additional job functions may vary due to department or City needs/requirements. Assignments may include but are not limited to:

Perform a variety of basic maintenance and construction duties including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC system work, painting general custodial and basic repairs on structures, swimming pools, fixtures, signs, fences, equipment, roofs, gutters and sumps.

Operate large and small equipment, including facility maintenance and construction tools and equipment and landscape tools and equipment.

Maintain and operate the City's public swimming pool by repairing, cleaning, treating, filling, draining and painting as required.

Regularly inspect lighting and HVAC components; investigates minor electrical problems; perform minor (mechanical and electrical) repairs on site; report malfunctions.

Efficiently operate power tools and equipment.

Efficiently operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies.

Perform repairs on park equipment and facilities in a thorough and efficient manner.

Clean, service, adjust and make repairs on buildings, facilities, equipment and tools.

Perform routine HVAC maintenance by replacing filters and belts and repairing minor components.
Other Job Functions

Assist in repairs and project planning for recurring maintenance or small-scale construction projects.

Interpret blueprints and prepare cost estimates.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job

High school diploma or G.E.D.
-
Five (5) years experience in construction and facility maintenance.
LICENSES, CERITIFCATIONS, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Certain licenses and certificates, if required, may be acquired on the job as agreed upon by the City and employee. Subject to change based on operational needs.

Valid Washington State driver license upon hire.

Must obtain a valid First Aid/ CPR certification within 12 months of employment.

Must obtain a Certified Pool Operator license within 12 months of employment.

Must obtain a valid Washington Applicators license (Laws and Safety and Insecticide endorsement) within 12 months of employment.

ENVIRONMENT:
Duties are primarily performed outside in varying weather conditions including rain, dust storms and snow and icy conditions with temperatures ranging for extended periods of time.
PHYSICAL:
Regularly performs manual labor in cramped conditions. Regularly climbs ladders. Regularly performs manual and skilled labor at heights up to 30 feet. Frequently lifts objects and equipment up to 50 pounds. May be required to lift heavy equipment and materials in excess of 50 pounds
HAZARDS:
Employees risk physical hazards from mechanical and electrical equipment, exposure to debris and drug paraphernalia, hazardous gases and fumes, chemicals, paints, and pesticides.
