Financial Controller

American Anthracite is seeking a highly analytical and strategic Financial Controller to lead our financial operations and provide critical oversight of our accounting functions.

We are looking for a seasoned finance professional who thrives in a heavy-industry environment and understands the unique financial dynamics of surface mining and aggregate operations. The successful candidate will not only ensure the absolute accuracy of our financial reporting but will also serve as a key advisor to the executive team, providing the cost accounting and financial modeling necessary to drive profitable daily operations.

Strategic & Financial Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Lead all month-end and year-end close processes. Prepare, analyze, and present comprehensive financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to the executive leadership team.
• Cost Accounting & Operational Metrics: Implement robust cost accounting protocols. Track and analyze critical production metrics, including cost-per-ton, equipment depreciation, fuel expenditures, and plant processing efficiencies.
• Cash Flow Management: Oversee daily cash management, forecasting, and working capital optimization to ensure the company maintains strong liquidity for operational scaling and capital expenditures.
• Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain strict internal financial controls. Coordinate with external auditors and ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and federal tax and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Departmental Leadership: Manage and mentor the accounting staff, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll personnel, ensuring a high level of accuracy and cross-functional support for the operational teams.

Qualifications

• Education & Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. An active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is highly preferred.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior financial management role. Experience in mining, heavy civil construction, or manufacturing is strongly preferred.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in modern ERP systems and financial software, with exceptional Excel modeling skills.
• Operational Mindset: A proven ability to bridge the gap between complex financial data and "boots-on-the-ground" operations, helping plant and pit managers understand the financial impact of their operational decisions.

Pay: $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
