Overview:

Under direct supervision, constructs, installs, repairs and maintains wooden fixtures and structures such as cabinets, shelves, door frames, ceilings, floors, furniture and partitions. Performs remodeling and alteration projects.

This position is located at Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities:

(RESPONSIBILITIES)
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to the organization’s core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process.
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
  • Prepares and/or reads blueprints, specifications, or rough sketches to determine procedure for designing, constructing, repairing, or installing furniture, cabinets, shelves, partitions, paneling, ceilings or other articles.
  • Calculates quantity of material needed. Selects and orders lumber, hardware, and other supplies. Maintains an adequate inventory of lumber and supplies for regular and routine assignments.
  • Constructs new wooden furniture and equipment. Builds cabinets that must fit a special area and cannot be purchased.
  • Installs ceiling and floor covering such as linoleum, asphalt tile, ceramic tile, cork tile, and asbestos tile.
  • Performs general masonry, cement finishing and plastering work, such as building block walls and plastering new and old walls as needed.
  • Installs, repairs, or removes fire rated doors and hardware. Including tasks such as repairing locks, fixing door closers and hinges, and hanging new doors.
  • Makes minor repair to furniture such as replacing broken chair legs.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties not related to Carpentry as required or as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent -required.
  • Ability to read and understand written or verbal communications and to read and interpret blueprints required.

License/Certification:
  • Valid driver’s license- required.

Experience:
  • Eight years’ experience as a carpenter required.

  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills consistent with mission and values.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate friendly, courteous, professional customer service behaviors and provide service recovery in an accommodating manner consistently.
