Position Title: Firefighter Driver / Heavy. Reports to Watch Commander.

Division: Airport Operations - RFFS Grade. Department: Rescue Firefighting Service (RFFS).

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Airport Firefighter Driver is to ensure effective firefighting and rescue operations in the airport environment. This role involves applying specialized firefighting techniques and tactics to manage emergencies, both with and without supervision. The key responsibilities include maintaining the readiness of firefighting vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure, ensuring they comply with the airport's operational standards. They are also expected to activate and respond to incidents and accidents within their jurisdiction, leveraging their training and expertise to effectively manage emergency situations.

Public Training and Development
  • Participate in educational Fire and Safety awareness programmes.
  • Maintain level of physical fitness as per RAK policies and procedures.
  • Undergo physical and theoretical training according to the Structured Learning Program.
  • Participate in drills, physical training and use of equipment.
Process

Responsible for daily checking of fire appliances, media levels, fire fighting and rescue equipment, fully conversant with pump operation on major foam tenders and radio procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to the scene with maximum urgency while keeping safety in mind.
  • Make suggestions for buying new equipment, services and/or materials.
  • Attend emergency incidents, fires and pump & monitor operations.
  • Rescue trapped people.
  • Minimize distress and suffering, including giving first aid before hospital staff arrives.
  • Deal with unforeseen circumstances as they arise; think and respond quickly.
  • Clean up and check the site after dealing with an incident.
Reporting
  • Reports to the watch commander or leading fireman or his immediate superior.
Communication & Working Relationships

Internal Airport Employees

  • Providing rescue and first aid.
  • Conducting risk management.

External Passengers

  • Providing rescue and first aid.
  • Conducting risk management.

External Emergency Services

  • Providing rescue and first aid.
  • Conducting risk management.
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
  • Diploma or equivalent, minimum of high school education (12th Grade) & Fluent in the English language (both spoken and written).
  • Heavy UAE driver's license.
  • First Aid qualified and licensing is advantageous.
  • Physical fitness: good general muscular development, no marked obesity, medically fit, height at least 1.65 metres, good eyesight, clean shaven, fit for manual work including lifting, climbing, firefighting duties.
  • Cannot be claustrophobic, acrophobic nor hemophobic.
  • 2 years experience as a firefighter at an airport category 7 or higher.
  • Understand incident command and crew commander roles and responsibilities.
Other Requirements - Safety Accountability And Responsibilities

All staff has the following safety responsibilities and is accountable to their supervisor(s) and Head of Department:

  • To comply with the relevant safety requirements and procedures outlined in the Aerodrome Operations Manual, Safety Management System, and any other instructions or notices issued by Ras Al Khaimah International Airport.
  • To comply with the safety requirements detailed within their training.
  • To advise their Head of Department and the Airport Duty Officer team of any safety occurrence or system failure and to identify and report any situation of potential risk or concern affecting safety via one of the following means.
  • Report directly to the Safety Department or an immediate supervisor.
  • Submitting an Accident/ Incident Report.
  • Support safety audits and investigations as they occur.
