Overview:
The Firefighter/ EMT is responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and fire suppression services to protect life, property, and the environment. This role operates primarily in out-of-hospital settings and requires collaboration with medical direction, other provider agencies, and state EMS systems. EMT/Firefighters are accountable to medical direction, their peers, and the public.
Position is contingent upon contract award.
Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-hospital emergency medical duties in compliance with state EMS regulations.

Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) care under medical direction.

Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, and cleaning of emergency vehicles.

Perform supply inventory and equipment checks in coordination with Paramedics.
-
Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls.
-
Operate emergency vehicles and communication equipment safely and professionally.

Perform vehicle extrication and other rescue operations.
-
Conduct fire prevention and suppression activities.
-
Protect life and property during emergency incidents.
-
Survey assigned areas and provided detailed activity reports.

Enforce customer procedures, regulations, and safety standards.

Maintain a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and the public.

Participate in other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Current and valid EMT certification (SC or eligible to obtain prior to hire).

Firefighter Level I

Minimum age: 21 years to operate emergency vehicles.

Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
-
Current BLS/CPR certification.
-
No disqualifying criminal convictions as defined by state law.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Ability to work in physically demanding conditions and high-stress environments.
Continuing Education & Certification:
-
Attend continuing education and refresher training courses as required by medical direction and licensing agencies.

Complete recertification at least 60 days prior to expiration (employee responsibility).
Physical Demands:

Good physical stamina, endurance, and body condition.
-
Ability to frequently walk, stand, lift, carry, and balance, particularly during patient care.
Environmental Conditions

Exposure to extreme weather, vibrations, and atmospheric conditions.

Risk of bodily injury from falls or hazardous situations.

Exposure to bodily fluids and other potential workplace hazards.
