The Family:

This Laurelhurst-based family is seeking a professional, experienced nanny to care for their one-year-old child. As first-time parents, they are thoughtful, engaged, and focused on creating a calm, nurturing, and developmentally supportive environment. The family has worked with a mother’s helper/doula previously.

They are looking for a career nanny who brings both experience and intention to their work. The ideal candidate is proactive, communicative, and confident in their ability to support a child through the toddler years with structure, warmth, and consistency.

The home environment is calm, respectful, and organized. The parents value professionalism, reliability, and clear communication, and are looking for someone who can operate independently while maintaining a strong partnership with them.

Their child is happy, curious, and enjoys books, music, and active engagement. This is a highly interactive stage, and the family is seeking a nanny who genuinely enjoys this age and will actively support developmental growth through play, routine, and thoughtful interaction.

The child has an egg allergy (FPIES), which requires careful attention to food safety and awareness of delayed allergic reactions.

Parents primarily work outside the home, with occasional work-from-home days in a separate workspace.

The family would love to find someone who becomes a trusted, long-term presence in their home.

The Job Description:

This is a childcare-focused role centered on providing attentive, developmentally appropriate care for a one-year-old child. The ideal candidate is experienced, proactive, and engaged, with a strong understanding of toddler development and a hands-on approach to caregiving.

The nanny will be responsible for planning and leading daily activities, supporting developmental milestones, and maintaining a consistent and well-structured routine. This includes preparing meals for the child, supporting transitions such as introducing solids and cup drinking, and creating opportunities for both structured and independent play.

A strong emphasis is placed on intentional, developmentally informed care. The nanny will be expected to observe developmental progress, adapt activities accordingly, and actively support the child’s growth across motor, language, and social-emotional domains.

Daily outdoor time is an important part of this role. The family prefers neighborhood-based activities such as walks and local outings, and values a nanny who encourages exploration and engagement with the child’s environment.

Health and safety are a top priority. The nanny must be comfortable managing food allergies, maintaining strong hygiene practices, monitoring the child’s overall health and well-being, and responding confidently to situations such as allergic reactions or first aid needs.

This is not a household assistant role. Responsibilities are limited to childcare and child-related tasks only.

The ideal candidate is self-directed, reliable, and able to take initiative in creating a well-structured, engaging, and safe daily experience for the child.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (reading, music, sensory and play-based learning)
  • Support developmental milestones (motor skills, language development, social-emotional growth)
  • Observe developmental progress and adjust activities to support the child’s evolving needs
  • Encourage curiosity, exploration, and independent play
  • Prepare the child’s meals and snacks
  • Support transition to solids and cup/straw drinking
  • Maintain consistent daily routines (meals, naps, activities)
  • Take the child on daily outings such as walks and trips to local parks/playgrounds
  • Maintain strict awareness of food allergies and food safety practices
  • Monitor the child’s overall health, safety, and well-being throughout the day
  • Respond appropriately to allergic reactions, choking, or first aid situations
  • Provide regular updates to parents on the child’s day, including feeding, naps, and developmental progress
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment related to the child
  • Clean and reset child-related spaces daily (meals, play areas, toys, etc.)
