Graphic Designer / Electronic Prepress Technician & Mail Management Specialist

A local printing company seeks an experienced Graphic Designer / Electronic PrePress Technician / Mail Management Specialist to set up and create files, aid in the production of print jobs, and process mailing lists for inkjetting.

Position Summary: The PrePress Technician will be responsible for performing a full range of functions including processing customer provided files, creating files for electronic imposition, proofing, digital output and specialized printing. There will be direct communication with Customer Service and production personnel as necessary to keep the work flowing and meet the appropriate deadlines.

The essential responsibilities will be to read and understand the job ticket and its corresponding specifications, review the associated files and check the details and layout for accuracy, prepare and create files for print production, and create or modify electronic layouts and templates using the Preps imposition software. There will be a variety of materials supplied by the clients to build and produce their jobs, ranging from provided photos and written text, to partially built or scanned files. Color proofs and pdf's will be prepared for customer approval, and plates will be generated for use in the pressroom.

Customer mailing lists will need to be worked on in Excel, to prepare the data for PreSort processing and verification against the NCOA database, for ultimate use by our in-house mailing department. Prior knowledge of mailing requirements and BCC Software or Lorton Data A-Qua Mailer would be helpful, but will train.

The PrePress Technician will serve as a contact for our clients, sales representatives and production personnel, so good communication skills will be necessary, both verbal and in writing. The qualified individual must be able to prioritize, and manage their time efficiently in order to meet deadlines. The ability to troubleshoot various applications would be helpful.

Position Requirements: The qualified candidate must be able to work with various graphic design and layout software applications commonly used on Mac's and PC’s, such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Quark. Experience with imposition software such as Preps is preferred. A thorough understanding of digital file formats (pdf, tiff, eps) and color separations is required. You must demonstrate a sharp eye for detail and adhere to department quality standards, while completing the work accurately in a time-sensitive environment. Experience with a digital copier or wide format equipment would be a plus.
