Job Title: Gypsum Carpenter

Job Summary A Gypsum Carpenter is responsible for the installation, finishing, and maintenance of gypsum board systems, including false ceilings, drywall partitions, and decorative interior elements. The role requires accuracy in measurement, the ability to read drawings, and strong hands-on skills to deliver high-quality finishes in line with project specifications.

Key Responsibilities1. Installation & Fixing

• Install gypsum boards for ceilings, partitions, and wall linings
• Assemble and fix metal framing systems (studs, tracks, channels)
• Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and structural support

2. Site Preparation & Layout

• Read and interpret shop drawings and layout plans
• Mark ceiling levels and partition lines as per drawings
• Coordinate with site supervisors and engineers before execution

3. Cutting & Shaping

• Measure, cut, and shape gypsum boards as per required dimensions
• Create openings for electrical fittings, HVAC ducts, and access panels

4. Jointing & Finishing

• Apply joint tape and jointing compound
• Perform putty work and surface finishing
• Sand surfaces to achieve a smooth finish ready for painting

5. Repair & Maintenance

• Repair damaged gypsum boards and ceilings
• Replace or refix loose or cracked sections

6. Coordination

• Work closely with electricians, HVAC technicians, and painters
• Ensure proper coordination to avoid rework and delays

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Gypsum Carpenter / Drywall Installer
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings
• Knowledge of gypsum systems, ceiling frameworks, and materials
• Skilled in using hand tools and power tools
• Strong attention to detail and finishing quality
• Good physical fitness and ability to work at heights

Tools & Equipment Knowledge

• Measuring tape, cutter, gypsum saw
• Drill machine, screw gun
• Laser level / spirit level
• Sanding tools and trowels

Working Conditions

• Work on construction and fit-out sites (indoor environments)
• May involve working at heights using ladders or scaffolding
• Exposure to dust and noise during cutting and sanding

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all site health & safety regulations
• Use proper PPE (helmet, gloves, goggles, mask)
• Ensure safe handling of tools and materials

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in gypsum or interior fit-out works (depending on role level)
