Head of Engineering — Job Description
Summary
Lead and scale the engineering organization to deliver high‑quality, secure, and performant products; align engineering execution with company strategy and product roadmaps.
Key responsibilities
- Define and execute engineering strategy that supports product vision, business goals, and technical roadmap.
- Build, lead, and grow engineering teams: hire, mentor, set org structure, and develop career paths for engineering managers and individual contributors.
- Drive delivery excellence: establish processes for planning, sprint execution, QA, CI/CD, release management, and incident response.
- Own technical standards and architecture direction; ensure systems are scalable, maintainable, and cost‑effective.
- Partner with product, design, and GTM leaders to prioritize roadmap, manage tradeoffs, and ensure timely delivery of business value.
- Set engineering KPIs (velocity, quality, uptime, MTTR) and report progress to executive leadership.
- Champion engineering best practices: code quality, testing, observability, security, and documentation.
- Oversee technical debt management and balance between new feature delivery and platform stability.
- Manage vendor, contractor, and third‑party relationships for tools, services, and integrations.
- Lead major technical initiatives (platform builds, migrations, performance/cost optimization) and participate in technical design reviews.
- Foster an inclusive, high‑performance engineering culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate cross‑functional projects and remove blockers to accelerate delivery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant security and regulatory requirements in collaboration with security and legal teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years technical experience with 3+ years in an engineering leadership role (Head of Engineering, Director, VP of Engineering).
- Strong technical background across software architecture, cloud platforms, DevOps/SRE practices, and modern development workflows.
- Proven track record of scaling engineering teams, improving delivery processes, and shipping complex products.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills; experience working with senior executives and cross‑functional partners.
- Data‑driven decision maker with experience using metrics to drive improvements in productivity and quality.
Preferred skills
- Experience in the company’s domain (SaaS, fintech, e‑commerce, healthcare) and familiarity with relevant tech stacks.
- Familiarity with product management practices and strong product‑engineering collaboration.
- Experience with recruiting at scale and building diverse teams.
- Knowledge of security, compliance, and privacy considerations for product development.
- Prior experience managing distributed or remote engineering teams.
Pay: QAR256.21 - QAR1,145.16 per hour
