Job Title: Head of MEP Design - International Projects

Position Overview:

The Head of MEP Design will lead and oversee the MEP design function, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, fully coordinated, and code-compliant MEP designs for national and international projects. This role is solely focused on design leadership, technical excellence, and compliance with U.S. building codes and standards. The position requires strong expertise in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, and Fire Protection design, with advanced proficiency in BIM and Revit-based workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design Leadership & Team Management:

• Lead and mentor the MEP Design team (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection designers and BIM modelers).
• Assign design tasks, manage workloads, and ensure timely delivery of design deliverables.
• Develop and enforce design standards, templates, and best practices across all disciplines.
• Conduct technical reviews and design audits to maintain consistency and quality.

2. Design Development & Technical Oversight:

Lead the development of concept, schematic, design development, and construction-stage MEP drawings.

Review and approve:

• HVAC load calculations and equipment selection
• Electrical load calculations, power distribution, and lighting design
• Plumbing system sizing and layouts
• Fire protection and life safety designs
• Ensure designs are optimized, buildable, and aligned with project requirements.

3. Code Compliance (Mandatory – U.S. Standards):

• Ensure all MEP designs comply with U.S. and international codes, including but not limited to:
• ICC Codes: IBC, IMC, IPC, IECC
• NFPA standards (NFPA 13, 20, 70, 72, 90A, 101)
• ASHRAE standards (90.1, 62.1, 55, HVAC Handbooks)
• Coordinate with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements where applicable.
• Stay updated on revisions to U.S. codes and ensure implementation across projects.

4. BIM & Digital Design Management:

• Lead and enforce BIM/Revit-based MEP design workflows.
• Oversee clash detection, model coordination, and interdisciplinary integration.
• Establish BIM execution plans (BEP) and ensure LOD compliance.
• Promote efficient use of design software and automation tools.

5. Design Coordination & Client Engagement:

• Coordinate closely with Architectural, Structural, and Interior Design teams to ensure fully integrated designs.
• Participate in client design reviews, technical meetings, and presentations.
• Provide expert technical input to clients

7. Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

• Drive innovation in sustainable design, energy-efficient systems, and emerging MEP technologies.
• Encourage continuous learning within the team on new tools, codes, and design methodologies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10–15 years of experience in MEP design, with 5+ years in leadership/managerial roles.
• Expertise in HVAC, Electrical, Low-Voltage, Fire Protection, and Plumbing systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and engineering software tools.
• Strong knowledge of international MEP codes and regulations.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
