Head of Department (HOD) – STEM & IT

Job Overview

The HOD – STEM & IT is responsible for leading, planning, and overseeing the effective delivery of STEM and Information Technology education across the campus. The role focuses on curriculum development, teacher mentoring, integration of technology in learning, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of STEM and IT programs in alignment with organizational academic goals.

Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic Leadership

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of STEM and IT curriculum across grade levels.
  • Ensure alignment of STEM and IT programs with academic standards, learning outcomes, and organizational vision.
  • Introduce innovative teaching methodologies, project-based learning, and hands-on activities in STEM and IT.

Faculty Management & Support

  • Supervise, mentor, and support STEM and IT teachers to enhance teaching quality.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate professional development sessions for faculty.

Curriculum & Program Development

  • Design and update lesson plans, assessments, and learning resources for STEM and IT.
  • Integrate coding, robotics, digital literacy, and emerging technologies where applicable.
  • Ensure age-appropriate, inclusive, and engaging STEM learning experiences.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor student performance and program effectiveness through assessments and evaluations.
  • Prepare fortnightly and monthly academic reports for senior management.
  • Maintain accurate academic documentation, lesson plans, and evaluation records.

Technology Integration

  • Promote effective use of educational technology and digital tools in classrooms.
  • Coordinate with IT support to ensure smooth functioning of labs, software, and hardware.
  • Support digital transformation initiatives within the academic department.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Work closely with Academic Coordinators, School Leadership, and other HODs.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, child safeguarding standards, and academic regulations.
  • Participate in academic meetings, planning sessions, and school events.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience in STEM and/or IT.
  • Prior leadership or coordination experience will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment strategies, and educational technology.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor teachers and lead academic initiatives effectively.
