Job Description

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Schedule will be determined by the supervisor to meet the needs of maintaining the efficiency of governmental operations.

This position will have very limited work from home capabilities due to the nature of the duties.

Fifth District, Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Human Resources Professional 1 to support 5th District and Central Office human resources operations.


What You’ll Do

As a Human Resources Professional 1, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the HR Professional 1 team to lead Central Office and 5th District management on HR matters including hiring, discipline, and classification.
  • Talent Acquisition: Oversee the recruitment lifecycle, from preparing job postings to screening and interviewing applicants.
  • Personnel & Benefits Administration: Manage payroll transactions and provide technical guidance on FMLA, insurance, and retirement benefits.
  • Legal & Grievance Liaison: Serve as a liaison for employee civil suits, unemployment claims, and 3rd-step grievances.
  • Systems Expertise: Act as a Workday Subject Matter Expert, assisting staff with business processes and coordinating with the DAS-HRE Worksmart team.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure consistent application of State and Department of Corrections (DOC) policies, procedures, and administrative rules.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
  • A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience in technical or professional human resources work, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes three years of full-time work performing technical human resources work.
