HVAC Draftsman

An HVAC draftsman creates detailed technical drawings for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software like AutoCAD and Revit. Key responsibilities include translating engineering and architectural designs into blueprints, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and codes, and collaborating with engineers and project managers to develop and modify designs for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Key Responsibilities

• Drafting and Design: Prepare detailed technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and shop drawings for HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment schedules.
• CAD Software Proficiency: Utilize software such as AutoCAD and Revit to create and maintain 2D and 3D models of HVAC systems.
• Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders to ensure designs are accurate, coordinated, and integrated into the overall building plans.
• Compliance and Standards: Ensure that all designs comply with industry codes, standards (like ASHRAE), and project specifications.
• Modifications and Revisions: Review and revise drawings based on feedback from engineers or changes in site conditions.
• Documentation: Maintain organized records of all drawings and revisions.
• Calculations: Conduct ducting calculations and air distribution planning for optimal system performance.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit), a strong understanding of HVAC system design principles, and experience with HVAC load calculation software are crucial.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is necessary for creating accurate and precise technical drawings.
• Communication and Coordination: Strong communication skills are needed to collaborate effectively with project teams and other disciplines.
• Knowledge of Codes and Standards: Familiarity with relevant building codes and industry standards is essential for ensuring designs are compliant.
