HVAC Mechanic

Summary

The HVAC Mechanic provides HVAC preventative maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs using accepted industry-standard methods and following manufacturers’ and/or Federal Government guidelines for facility HVAC equipment. The HVAC Mechanic responds to assigned requests in a safe, efficient, clean, and professional manner.


Duties

  • Monitors, troubleshoots, and repairs/replaces HVAC equipment, systems, and BAS controls.
  • Completes and BAS checks as required.
  • Installs HVAC equipment parts and systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance to commercial HVAC equipment, including, but not limited to, chillers, heat pumps, split systems, rooftop units, air handling units, pumps, cooling towers, VAV systems, etc.
  • Performs work safely and reports any observed safety and security problems to the Project Manager/Site Supervisor.
  • Maintains a professional, courteous manner with all customers, tenants, vendors, contractors, and fellow employees always.
  • Maintains accurate lists, security, and stocking levels of HVAC service tools and consumable supplies.
  • May respond to after-hours emergency calls
  • Performs any reasonable assignment or request related to the building operations as directed by the Operations Director, Project/Site Manager, or Lead Engineer.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working on HVAC systems and associated equipment.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance and repairs.
  • Ability to diagnose refrigeration systems, air distribution systems and equipment controls.
  • State/area-specific HVAC licensing may be required.
  • Universal CFC Certification
  • North American Technician Excellence (N.A.T.E.), Core Service plus Air Distribution Services Specialist, or any service Knowledge Areas of Technician Expertise (K.A.T.E.) Specialty listed under the service category.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Communicate effectively in English in speaking and writing
  • Advanced HVAC training and manufacturer training
  • Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional overtime during afternoons, evenings and weekends as needed for emergencies
  • Must be able to respond to after-hours emergency calls
  • U.S. Citizen or approved registered alien
  • Ability to pass drug screening and Federal Government criminal background check
  • HVAC Excellence Professional: Light Commercial Air Conditioning, Gas Heat, and Green Awareness Certification (preferred)
  • UA Star HVAC Mastery Certification (preferred)

Working Conditions

The HVAC Technician is subject to potentially hazardous working conditions, including but not limited to: hot and/or cold weather, noisy environments, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding or ladders and/or high places, exposure to high heat, and exposure to chemicals.


Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):

  • Good physical condition with the ability to lift 75 lbs
  • Good fine motor coordination
  • Ability to withstand exposure to dust, fumes, heights, and confined spaces
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stand and reach to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to walk long distances from one work site to another.
