Instructional Designer

We are looking for an Instructional Designer to join our Learning and Development Team. The Instructional Designer designs and develops training programs, curriculum, methods, and materials for various audiences, including employees, managers, clients, or other learners. Consults with subject matter experts to define learning objectives and to design appropriate course content and training curriculum. Writes and edits outlines, syllabus, lecture notes, and materials for in-person or online courses and self-study programs. Builds out the structure in the LMS software and collaboration tools selected for training. Establishes metrics to use to evaluate training effectiveness. May collaborate with vendors that provide training materials or conduct training. Reports to Learning and Development Director. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

Key Responsibilities

• Creates learning experiences and environments.
• Designs learning activities, assignments, and assessments.
• Creates computer-based training (CBT) modules and storyboards.
• Develops instructor’s manuals, rubrics, and other learning tools.
• Collaborates with subject experts to develop course content.
• Manages online learning communities and LMS sites.
• Analyzes, updates, and refines existing online content.
• Trains instructors how to best employ learning strategies to hit desired learning metrics.
• Facilitates discussion and collaboration with SMEs and stakeholders.
• Keeps current on best practices in instructional design.
• Writes scripts for video and audio content.
• Works with technical staff to troubleshoot problems reported by users.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or higher degree in instructional design, education, adult learning, organizational psychology, or related field.
• 1 to 3 years’ experience previously as an instructor/facilitator.
• 1 to 3 years previous experience in instructional design.
• Confidence with Adobe, Articulate and Camtasia platforms.
• Experience with Learning Development Software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning employee benefits and payroll.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Comfortable making decisions independently.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge of instructional theory, including assessment
• Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS)
• Understanding of e-learning design and adult learning strategies
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
• Experience with design platforms, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Articulate 360
• Familiarity with course management systems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical colleagues and clients
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous deadlines

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, typically in a cubicle environment (constant noise, fluorescent overhead lighting)
