Job Title: Inventory Control Specialist

Job Summary: The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for the accurate tracking and management of all inventory items used in the maintenance and refurbishment of our commercial leased mobile units at our Modesto, CA and San Marcos, TX locations. This includes value-added products and services (VAPS), parts, components, accessories, consumables (such as lumber, paint, fasteners, and other shop supplies), and finished goods. The role ensures inventory accuracy, supports receiving, kitting, and issuance processes, assists the operations team with all shop-related inventory needs, and collaborates closely with the Procurement Team to maintain optimal stock levels, prevent shortages, and support efficient refurbishment operations.

Essential Functions
I. Inventory Management & Control
- Manage the full lifecycle of all inventory items, including VAPS, shop consumables, parts, components, and accessories: receiving, storage, kitting, issuance to operations, loading, and disposition.
- Assist the operations team by tracking, issuing, and replenishing shop-related inventory items to ensure uninterrupted workflow in refurbishment projects.
- Administer daily, weekly, monthly and annual physical inventory counts, and cycle counts for all materials to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Monitor inventory turnover to adjust min/max stocking levels and maintain FIFO stock rotation to reduce obsolescence and waste.
- Investigate and reconcile all discrepancies between physical counts and the Inventory Management System (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics).
- Execute material consumption using system decrement processes to maintain real time inventory accuracy.
- Maintain accurate location data within the warehouse and yard to ensure efficient retrieval of components and materials.
- Process all material returns (RMAs) and damaged goods according to established protocols.
II. Receiving and Quality Assurance
- Execute the receiving process for all inbound materials (including VAPS, consumables, lumber, paint, fasteners, etc.), verifying quantities against purchase orders (POs)/packing slips, and inspecting for visible damage or quality defects.
- Document and report any discrepancies, damage, or quality failures immediately to the Procurement team and Operations Manager.
- Ensure all received goods are properly labeled and moved to their designated storage location using material handling equipment (MHE).
III. Kitting and Production Support
- Coordinate the kitting process, accurately pulling all required VAPS, components, parts, accessories, and consumables on time and complete all work orders. Manage the inventory of finished goods and accessories, preparing them for final staging and delivery.
- Assemble and disassemble furniture, replace components, and complete material load outs in compliance with weight restrictions and safety standards.
- Provide ongoing support to the operations team by monitoring and fulfilling ad-hoc requests for shop inventory items.
IV. Process Improvement & Safety
- Adhere to all safety protocols regarding material handling equipment (MHE), storage, and general warehouse/yard operations.
- Maintain organized storage areas using 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) principles to maximize efficiency and flow.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to optimize inventory processes, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency in the stockroom, receiving dock, and shop areas.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in inventory control, warehouse logistics, or parts/materials management, preferably in construction, manufacturing, or modular building, environments.
- Proven proficiency in using Inventory Management Systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to perform accurate physical inventory and cycle counts.
- Strong attention to detail, especially regarding part numbers, specifications, quantities, and quality verification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to operate basic material handling equipment (pallet jack, forklift).
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift and/or scissor lift certification.
- Direct experience with kitting processes for custom assemblies, refurbishments, or manufacturing orders.
- Familiarity with construction materials, consumables (lumber, paint, fasteners), electrical, and plumbing components.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- The willingness to work in a warehouse and yard environment, subject to all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb ladders and safely operate material handling equipment.
