Junior Planning Engineer - Warsak Hydropower Project

A Planning Engineer on such a hydropower project plays a central role in organizing, tracking, and controlling the project schedule and resources so that rehabilitation or construction proceeds efficiently, safely, and on time.

Core Responsibilities

Project Scheduling & Timeline Development

  • Develop detailed work schedules covering design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.
  • Use scheduling tools and methodologies (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Gantt charts, Critical Path Method).

Progress Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track actual progress against the baseline schedule.
  • Prepare regular progress updates and reports for project managers, client representatives (e.g., WAPDA), and funding partners.
  • Identify delays and recommend corrective measures.

Coordination & Resource Planning

  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, electrical, and QA/QC teams to ensure activities are sequenced logically and resources (manpower, equipment, materials) are optimized.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, and stakeholders.

Risk & Delay Management

  • Identify potential risks (e.g., weather, supply delays, technical issues) that may impact the schedule.
  • Propose mitigation plans and schedule adjustments as needed.

Documentation & Control

  • Maintain critical project documents such as baseline schedule, revised schedules, delay analyses, and meeting minutes.
  • Support extension-of-time (EOT) claims or contractual correspondence when schedule changes occur.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Present schedules and progress reports to the Project Director, Resident Engineer, contractors, and donors.
  • Ensure transparency and alignment between technical and management teams.

Typical Skills & Tools

A Planning Engineer on hydropower projects usually needs:

  • Engineering background (often civil, electrical, or mechanical).
  • Proficiency in planning/scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project).
