Job Description – Site Engineer
Position Overview

The Site Engineer is responsible for managing, supervising, and executing construction activities on site in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The role bridges the gap between technical design and on-site implementation, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Execution & Supervision

· Supervise day-to-day construction activities at the site.

· Ensure execution of works as per drawings, technical specifications, and method statements.

· Provide technical guidance and support to supervisors, foremen, and workers.

2. Surveying & Layout

· Carry out site layout, leveling, and setting out works.

· Verify alignments, dimensions, and elevations as per design.

· Coordinate with surveyors to ensure accuracy of site measurements.

3. Quality Control & Assurance

· Inspect materials, workmanship, and methods to ensure compliance with quality standards.

· Conduct site tests and inspections for concrete, steel, and other construction materials.

· Identify defects or deviations and initiate corrective actions.

4. Planning & Coordination

· Plan daily, weekly, and monthly site activities in line with project schedules.

· Coordinate with architects, consultants, and contractors for smooth project execution.

· Monitor manpower, materials, and machinery deployment at site.

5. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

· Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

· Monitor safe working practices and enforce site safety protocols.

· Report incidents, accidents, or near misses and ensure corrective measures are implemented.

6. Documentation & Reporting

· Prepare and maintain daily site reports, progress logs, and checklists.

· Document as-built drawings and updates to project plans.

· Report delays, risks, and progress to the Project Engineer/Project Manager.

7. Material & Resource Management

· Verify material deliveries, check quality, and ensure proper storage.

· Monitor usage of materials to reduce wastage.

· Coordinate procurement needs with the stores and procurement team.

8. Stakeholder Communication

· Liaise with subcontractors, vendors, and consultants for technical clarifications.

· Communicate project progress and challenges to management and clients.

· Support the project manager in meetings, presentations, and inspections.

Key Skills & Competencies

· Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and standards.

· Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project/Primavera, and MS Office.

· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, BOQs, and contracts.

· Good leadership and team management skills.

· Problem-solving and decision-making ability under pressure.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Attention to detail with focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications & Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline.

· Familiarity with local building codes, safety standards, and construction practices.

· Certification in project management or safety training is an added advantage.
