Kitchen Steward

SUMMARY

The Steward, reporting directly to the Chief Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and proper storage of all China, glass, and silver, and ensuring the highest standards of sanitation. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting the kitchen staff in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and all storage areas; specifically for cleaning all equipment, utensils, and the physical work area. They are also responsible for assisting with proper food storage and rotation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment using dishwashers or manual methods.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces, including countertops, floors, and equipment.
  • Assist with the proper storage and organization of kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area and other kitchen facilities.
  • Remove trash and waste from kitchen areas and ensure proper disposal.
  • Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries, checking for freshness and quality.
  • Follow food safety and hygiene regulations, ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
  • Report any maintenance or repair issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines, including the use of protective equipment.
  • Returns all clean china, glass, and silver to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage.
  • Following guidelines for chemical handling and sanitation standards.
  • Knowledge of proper safe handling techniques for all chemicals used.
  • Cleans and organizes all designated areas to include sweeping, mopping, and washing floors.
  • Support any position in the Kitchen that needs help.
  • Operates and maintains cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor.
  • Washes and disinfects kitchen and storeroom areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
  • Receives deliveries, stores perishables properly, and rotates stock.
  • Inspects, pulls, and stacks cleaned items, sends soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing.
