JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist case management with patient care related services including court appointed guardianship; ECT requests; medical consent; Act 169 interpretations; document interpretations; discharge issues; abandoned patients; emergency surgery; abortions; end of life decisions; code changes; and ethics consults
Participate in weekly meetings with Bethlehem, Allentown and Anderson case management regarding long stay patients
Assist Government Relations with County or State agencies on Aging; Children and Youth; Mental Health; Intellectual Disabilities; Coroner
Assist departments with criminal cases as a liaison with the District Attorney; local police; state police; detectives; assaults on staff; threats to staff; harassment of staff in SLPG; security issues; video releases
Collaborate with SLPG regarding subpoenas for records, requests for written narratives for hearings, trials, disability claims, worker’s compensation claims, preliminary hearings, and social security claims
Collaborate with SLPG regarding patient discharges from practice; visitor complaints; transportation issues; custody disputes; fraudulent notes; fraudulent prescriptions
Provide day-to-day proactive legal advice, assistance and counseling to patient care leaders and management including department presentations
Collaborate with Compliance Office on HIPAA related matters
Review, revise, and negotiate Affiliation Agreements with universities and colleges, collaborating with applicable service lines regarding process and parameters
Review, revise, and negotiate Implementation Letters and Program Letters of Agreement with medical schools and healthcare institutions and providers, collaborating with Graduate Medical Education regarding process and parameters
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to six hours per day, one hour at a time. Standing for up to five hours per day, one hour at a time. Walking up to three hours per day, thirty minutes at a time. Fingering and handling frequently. Twisting and turning of hands occasionally. Lifting and carrying up to ten pounds, occasionally. Pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Occasionally stoops, bends, squats, kneels, and reaches above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general, near and visual monotony.
EDUCATION:
Juris Doctor required from an accredited law school. Admission to Pennsylvania bar required and admission to New Jersey bar preferred.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of ten years of experience focused on contracts, social services law and litigation, preferably with some experience in-house. Excellent knowledge and understanding of federal and state laws and regulations. Excellent analytical, research and writing skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively advise and communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
