Job Title: Senior Legal Manager –LAP & Commercial Vehicle

Position Overview:
This role will focus on non-litigation legal functions, primarily overseeing documentation, mortgage creation, property due diligence, compliance, and external legal coordination for the company’s Loan Against Property (LAP) and Commercial Vehicle (CV) businesses. The incumbent will ensure all documentation and processes are legally sound, compliant with internal policies, and aligned with applicable laws and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Documentation & Legal Vetting
- Draft, review, and finalize all standard loan and security documents including sanction letters, loan agreements, mortgage/hypothecation deeds, guarantees, and undertakings.
- Ensure documentation templates are updated in line with internal policy and regulatory requirements.
- Provide legal vetting and approvals prior to disbursement and support business/credit teams in deal structuring.
2. Mortgage Creation & Property Due Diligence
- Review and appraise legal opinions and title verification reports from empaneled advocates.
- Assess cases from a legal risk perspective and ensure valid, enforceable mortgage creation.
- Maintain strong understanding of property and mortgage laws across multiple States.
- Oversee registration of mortgages and CERSAI compliance.
3. Vendor & Advocate Management
- Build and manage a robust panel of local advocates and legal vendors across all operating States.
- Monitor performance, turnaround time, quality, and cost efficiency of external legal support.
- Develop standardized evaluation and empanelment criteria for legal partners.
4. Compliance & Audit Support
- Handle and resolve legal queries raised by internal, external, and statutory auditors.
- Ensure adherence to NBFC / RBI regulations, property law requirements, and company lending policies.
- Maintain documentation trails, MIS, and records for audit and compliance purposes.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Credit, Operations, Risk, and Compliance teams to address documentation and legal risk issues.
- Provide proactive legal support in structuring complex deals and process improvements.
6. Liaison with External Lawyers & Litigation Monitoring
- Liaise with external counsel on litigation, arbitration, or enforcement matters.
- Assist in fact-finding, strategy formulation, settlement negotiations, and cost management.
- Monitor progress of ongoing cases and maintain MIS/reporting for management review.
7. Legal Notices, Police Complaints, Representations & Letters
- Draft, issue, and file legal notices, police complaints, representations, and correspondence as required.
- Translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for non-legal teams and business units.
- Support risk mitigation through timely communication and documentation of legal actions.

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and aligned with industry standards.
