Perform a wide variety of professional library work within an assigned area of library operations including acquiring, cataloging and circulating material for a specific function of the library; provide a wide variety of public services to library patrons including reference services, web services, circulation and research activities; maintain library collection including the cataloging of books, films, records and other materials; and participate in various special programs including children's programs, youth programs or library educational programs; may supervise, plan and coordinate the operations and activities of an assigned branch library or unit. May perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below)

Perform a variety of professional tasks related to the circulation, acquisition or cataloging of library materials; assist in the processing and maintenance of library materials; provide assistance at public information desks within the library.

Coordinate and review the work plan for assigned branch library or library unit services; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.

Perform circulation duties; check out materials; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons.

Provide a wide variety of public services to library patrons; assist in locating books and various other materials; instruct patrons in the use of computerized catalogs, Internet access and general library resources.

Provide reference and reader advisory services utilizing a wide variety of reference tools including automated databases and other library technologies.

Assist with the use and operation of various library hardware and software including computers, copiers, and communication technologies.

Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the library website, ILS, intranet, and LibGuides. May provide training to library staff in creation and use of LibGuides.

Assist in the coordination of the library social media presence.

Maintain and develop assigned library collection; remove outdated and unused materials; catalog and classify books.

Evaluate library materials; recommend purchase of new materials; analyze library collection acquisition procedures; purchase materials to improve library acquisitions.

Perform cataloging duties; create an original bibliographic record of book title; review and correct cataloged materials from other branches before distribution.

Plan and participate in the provision of library programs; plan story times and reading programs; maintain and evaluate special children's collections.

Conduct bibliographic searches; match bibliographic records to existing titles; copy catalog and edit bibliographic record to verify accurate information.

Coordinate inter-library loan services; process requests and forms, and maintain necessary records according to established procedures.

Prepare and maintain displays; create and implement seasonal and on-going programs and activities including volunteer participation.

Input data into library computer systems; make corrections; add or delete entries on bibliographic records; correct author and subject entries.

Promote library services and resources; give library tours to groups; prepare informational handouts for public distribution including calendars and flyers.

Respond to patron in-person and telephone requests for library materials, services and information; assist patrons in completing requests for material not available in the local collection.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:-
Perform various clerical work; order and maintain supplies and equipment; type a variety of documents; answer phones; maintain files and records; operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, typewriter, telephone system, copy machine, facsimile machine and other related equipment.

Give presentations and lectures to schools, citizens, educators, parents and various other patrons regarding library services and programs.

Prepare and maintain a variety of statistical, financial and narrative reports.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in library or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) certified institution; and
Two (2) years of experience in an academic, public, school, special library, bookstore environment, direct customer service, or information services field.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lead or supervisory experience is preferred.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within 6 months from hire date.
Environmental:
Library environment; work closely with the public; exposure to computer screens and dust.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and pushing carts one-hundred (100) pounds or greater; light to moderate lifting and carrying of forty (40) pounds or greater.
