Job Overview

The Machine Operator – Six Head Moulder is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining six-head (or multi-head) moulder machines used to produce high-precision profiled timber components. The role ensures consistent dimensional accuracy, smooth surface finish, and compliance with approved drawings, profiles, and quality standards for joinery and fit-out products.

Key Responsibilities

1. Machine Operation

  • Operate six-head / multi-head moulder machines for profiling, planing, sizing, and shaping timber components.
  • Set up machine heads (spindle arrangement) according to approved profiles, cutter layouts, and shop drawings.
  • Perform moulding operations for skirting, architraves, door frames, window frames, handrails, panel moldings, and decorative profiles.
  • Adjust feed speed, cutter depth, spindle alignment, and pressure rollers to suit timber type and profile complexity.
  • Monitor machine performance during operation to ensure smooth, vibration-free cutting.

2. Quality & Accuracy

  • Ensure finished components meet dimensional tolerances, profile accuracy, and surface finish requirements.
  • Match production output with approved samples and profile templates.
  • Perform self-inspections using calipers, profile gauges, templates, and measuring tools.
  • Identify defects such as chatter marks, tear-out, burning, or incorrect profiles and take corrective action.
  • Coordinate inspections with the Foreman-Machine Section as required.

3. Material Preparation & Handling

  • Inspect timber for moisture content, straightness, knots, cracks, and defects prior to moulding.
  • Ensure timber is properly sized, straightened, and prepared before feeding into the machine.
  • Handle solid timber and engineered wood materials safely to prevent damage and injury.
  • Segregate accepted, rejected, and rework materials clearly.

4. Tooling, Setup & Maintenance

  • Select, install, and align cutter heads, knives, and tooling according to the required profile.
  • Ensure cutters are sharp, balanced, and securely mounted.
  • Perform routine machine calibration and alignment checks.
  • Conduct daily cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance.
  • Report mechanical issues, excessive vibration, or safety concerns to the maintenance team or supervisor.

5. Health, Safety & Housekeeping

  • Comply with all health and safety regulations related to high-speed woodworking machinery.
  • Use appropriate PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and dust masks.
  • Ensure machine guards, pressure systems, and emergency stop mechanisms are fully functional.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow environmental controls for dust extraction and waste management.

6. Productivity & Teamwork

  • Achieve production targets while maintaining quality standards.

Coordinate with cutting, ripping, sanding, and finishing teams for smooth workflow.

  • Minimize material wastage through correct setup and handling.
  • Suggest improvements in tooling, setup efficiency, and production processes.
  • Support training of junior operators when required.

Qualifications & Experience

Education / Training

  • Technical or vocational training in woodworking machinery, carpentry, or joinery preferred.
  • Certification in machine operation and safety is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience operating multi-head moulder machines in a joinery or woodworking factory.
  • Experience producing high-quality decorative and architectural profiles is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of moulding machine setup, cutter configuration, and profiling techniques.
  • Ability to read shop drawings, profile details, and cutting lists.
  • High attention to detail and quality control.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under production pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of preventive machine maintenance.

Working Conditions

  • Factory-based role with exposure to high-speed machinery, wood dust, and noise.
  • Prolonged standing and handling of long timber sections.
  • Overtime may be required to meet production schedules.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From Rs50,000.00 per month
