Part Time Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek is a 10-acre living history museum and event venue dedicated to preserving and showcasing Central Florida's heritage. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, preservation, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the property, including historic structures, grounds, animal enclosures, fences, and venue spaces. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for visitors, volunteers, staff, and wedding guests while ensuring the long-term preservation of the Village's historic assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Historic Building Preservation & Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections of historic structures and identify maintenance needs.
  • Complete basic repairs and preventative maintenance while following historic preservation best practices.
  • Assist with painting, carpentry, minor plumbing, electrical, and general repairs as needed.
  • Report structural concerns or specialized preservation needs to management.
  • Ensure buildings remain clean, secure, and visitor-ready.

Grounds & Property Maintenance

  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the 10-acre property.
  • Perform landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, weed control, debris removal, and seasonal property upkeep.
  • Maintain pathways, signage, picnic areas, and common spaces.
  • Monitor and address drainage, storm damage, and other property-related concerns.

Fence & Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Inspect and repair fencing, gates, and other site infrastructure as needed.
  • Maintain outdoor equipment and storage areas.
  • Assist with minor construction and improvement projects throughout the property.

Animal Care

  • Provide routine care for the Village's livestock, including one goat and two chickens.
  • Ensure animals have adequate food, water, and clean living conditions.
  • Clean enclosures and monitor animal health, reporting concerns to management.
  • Assist with coordinating veterinary care when needed.

Event Venue Support

  • Prepare event spaces for weddings, rentals, and special events.
  • Ensure grounds and facilities are clean, attractive, and guest-ready before and after events.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of venue equipment, tables, chairs, and event-related materials as needed.
  • Respond to maintenance issues that arise during events.

Vehicle & Waste Management

  • Operate a vehicle to transport trash and materials throughout the property and to additional properties.
  • Remove trash and recycling weekly and as needed.
  • Perform routine inspections of maintenance vehicles and equipment.
  • Report vehicle maintenance needs promptly.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all organizational safety procedures.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in safe working order.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations related to historic properties, animal care, and workplace safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in facilities maintenance, groundskeeping, construction, landscaping, or a related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and general repair techniques.
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping and maintenance equipment.
  • Experience working with farm animals or livestock is preferred but not required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to interact professionally with visitors, volunteers, vendors, and event clients.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and vehicles.

Requirements

  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays to support events and property needs.
  • Successful completion of background screening.
