Hotel Maintenance Technician / Handyman Job Description
Position Title: Hotel Maintenance Technician / Handyman
Reports To: Director of Operations / Chief Engineer / General Manager
Position Summary
The Hotel Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the hotel's guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, and exterior grounds to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and team members. This position performs general repairs, preventative maintenance, and responds promptly to maintenance requests.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesGeneral Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel.
- Complete guest room maintenance requests/calls in a timely manner.
- Inspect hotel facilities and identify maintenance needs.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs.
- Maintain maintenance logs and work orders.
Painting & Wall Repairs
- Perform painting, staining, and touch-up work in guest rooms and public areas.
- Repair drywall damage, holes, dents, and scratches.
- Sand, patch, and prepare surfaces before painting.
- Match paint colors and maintain hotel appearance standards.
Carpentry & Door Repairs
- Repair and adjust guest room and exterior doors.
- Replace door hardware, locks, hinges, closers, and handles.
- Repair furniture, cabinetry, and millwork as needed.
- Install shelves, fixtures, and other hardware.
HVAC & Air Conditioning
- Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on HVAC and air conditioning systems.
- Replace filters and maintain HVAC equipment.
- Monitor heating and cooling systems for proper operation.
- Report major HVAC issues requiring specialized service.
Plumbing
- Repair leaking faucets, toilets, sinks, and shower fixtures.
- Unclog drains and toilets.
- Replace plumbing components as needed.
- Respond promptly to plumbing-related guest concerns.
Electrical
- Replace light bulbs, ballasts, switches, and outlets.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical issues.
- Maintain lighting throughout the property.
- Follow all safety procedures when working with electrical systems.
Grounds & Exterior Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of hotel grounds.
- Perform minor landscaping duties as needed.
- Remove debris and ensure walkways are safe.
- Assist with seasonal property maintenance.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA and hotel safety guidelines.
- Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order.
- Ensure compliance with hotel brand standards.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of painting, drywall repair, carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, bend, climb, and walk for extended periods.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
Preferred Skills
- HVAC certification preferred but not required.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Hotel maintenance experience strongly preferred.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50-100 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Pay: Based on experience, starting at $17.00
