Job Summary
This position is responsible for leading a team of benefits professionals and the design, implementation, administration and communication of benefits including health, welfare, education and time off programs. This includes management of employee inquiries, maintaining legally compliant plans, working with vendors and consultants, and maintaining consistent metrics and reports. The benefits team collaborates with HR and other System leaders to develop strategies linked to the organization’s business goals and objectives while bringing awareness of benefit programs to employees and their families.Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Business, HR Management or other related field
Licenses/Certifications: CEBS or CBP certification preferred
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Five (5) years employee benefits experience
Previous management experience preferred
Previous experience with employee benefit plans in a health care environment preferred
Requires strong knowledge of the principles and practices of employee benefits
Prior experience with Workday HCM preferred
Prior experience with service and/or call center management preferred
Experience with plan design/evaluation/ compliance/implementation for health and welfare, life and AD&D insurance, short term disability, voluntary benefits plans, education benefits, and time off plans
Experience with COBRA, HIPAA, Affordable Care Act (ACA) and other applicable laws
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and the ability to determine when escalation of issues is required
Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
Critical thinking and problem resolution skills
Demonstrated strong computer skills
Effective communication skills (written, oral and presentation) and the ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization
Principal Accountabilities
Collaborates with Director of Benefits, human resource partners, and other leaders as appropriate
Contributes to the formulation of Benefit Department plans, objectives and strategies.
Ensures effective and accurate benefit communications.
Evaluates and implements effective and accurate process as necessary to maintain efficiency of benefit delivery. Act as a liaison with carriers, vendors and consultants on various matters such as plan design, contracts, coverage and renewals.
Assures all company-sponsored plans, including their design and changes thereto, are in compliance with all relevant legal requirements (e.g. PPA, HIPAA, COBRA, DOL, IRS) and ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements.
Develop and maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform job responsibilities, including knowledge of employee benefits and HRIS trends and developments.
Assists with resolving issues related to all aspects of Benefits pertaining to internal customers.
Handles service issues from team members in a professional manner by utilizing excellent customer service skills.
Collects, tabulates, maintains and analyzes appropriate statistical information and reports relevant results.
Responsible for identifying methods to improve overall Benefits operations and efficiency to internal customers.
Responsible for hiring, coaching, disciplinary actions and performance appraisals for all Benefits staff.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality when researching and resolving customer concerns.
Maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization as required to meet performance objectives.
Perform special assignments as directed by other members of senior management.
Promotes individual professional growth and development of direct reports.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
