Marketing Director

Job Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is a hands-on leader responsible for driving clear, consistent, and effective communications through strong project management. This role oversees internal organizational messaging and the day-to-day execution of marketing and communications projects. The Director translates organizational priorities into clear, audience-focused communications, ensuring work is completed on time and on strategy.
This position requires a strong communications background, excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects across teams and service areas, while providing clear structure and consistency for the marketing team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Communications
  • Directs internal and external communications, organizational messaging, executive communications, campaigns, and public-facing materials across channels including web, email, social media, print, presentations, and media.
  • Ensures messaging is clear, accessible, and mission-aligned across programs.
  • Partners with senior leadership on priority, growth-related, and sensitive communications.
  • Coordinates media relations, including press releases, pitches, and interviews.
  • Provides strategic direction and review for digital channels, with day-to-day execution led by the Digital Marketing Manager.
Project Management and Execution
  • Directs marketing and communications project management, ensuring clear scopes, timelines, and deliverables to support effective team execution.
  • Manage workflows across the marketing team and internal stakeholders using structured project management tools to improve collaboration.
  • Track priorities and dependencies across multiple projects and proactively address issues in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Use tools such as Jira, or similar platforms, to organize work, report status, and improve efficiency.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
  • Supervise, coach, and develop marketing team members by setting clear direction, priorities, and performance expectations, while supporting professional growth through coaching, goal setting, and skill development aligned with organizational needs.
  • Foster a respectful, collaborative, and execution-focused team culture grounded in trust, clarity, and follow-through.
  • Address performance issues directly and constructively, providing clear feedback, expectations, and follow-through.
Brand and Message Stewardship
  • Maintain consistent brand voice, tone, and visual standards across all communications.
  • Review and approve key materials to ensure quality and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Support effective use of brand guidelines across the organization.
Planning, Measurement, and Improvement
  • Establish goals and metrics for communications and marketing work, and monitor effectiveness using data and feedback to improve outcomes.
Other Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory
  • This position supervises marketing team members.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
Experience: Five (5) or more years of professional experience in marketing and communications. Demonstrated experience leading and overseeing communications initiatives and managing complex projects. Previous experience supervising staff.

Knowledge
  • Communications strategy and best practices, including internal communications, public relations, and content development.
  • Project management methodologies and tools.
  • Digital communications platforms including websites, email marketing systems, and social media.
Essential Skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including editing and message refinement.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible messaging.
  • Leadership skills that emphasize clarity, organization, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Sound judgment and discretion, particularly with sensitive communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams through change and build a healthy, accountable team culture.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Jira is a strong plus.
  • Experience in healthcare, nonprofit, or social services environments is a plus.
  • Adobe Creative Suite
Working Conditions
This position follows The Centers’ Institutional Advancement Department’s hybrid work model, which generally works remotely on Mondays and Fridays and is in-office Tuesday through Thursday, with flexibility to adjust as needed. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. The position may require travel to multiple Centers locations throughout the day, as well as occasional off-site meetings, events, or vendor visits. Travel and work outside of normal hours may be required for meetings, presentations, training, and other events. Flexibility to adjust to varied work environments and schedules is essential, as well as the ability to travel between The Centers’ locations as needed.
