The Material Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, approval, and control of all construction materials to ensure full compliance with project specifications, consultant requirements, and local authority regulations. The role ensures that all materials are technically approved, cost-effective, and available in line with project schedules to support smooth construction progress.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement material management processes to ensure compliance with project specifications and regulatory requirements.

Manage the
material submittal and approval process
, ensuring all engineering and technical parameters are properly reviewed prior to submission.

Coordinate with
engineering, procurement, and project teams
to ensure timely sourcing and delivery of approved materials.

Ensure all materials comply with
project specifications, international standards, and consultant requirements

Review material requirements and identify
value engineering (VE) opportunities
to optimize cost without compromising quality.

Identify and evaluate
local and international suppliers
to ensure availability of compliant materials.

Maintain material tracking systems to monitor
submittals, approvals, procurement status, and deliveries
.

Provide technical guidance on
material specifications, performance, and suitability
for construction activities.

Ensure materials meet
quality standards and testing requirements
prior to approval and use on site.

Support the implementation of
HSE policies and safety initiatives
related to material handling and usage.
Job Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of
construction materials, specifications, and material engineering principles
.

Familiarity with
local and international construction codes and standards
.

Experience managing
material submittals, approvals, and consultant coordination
.

Strong understanding of
construction supply chain and material procurement processes
.

Ability to analyze technical specifications and identify
cost optimization opportunities

Proficiency in
ERP systems, preferably SAP
, for material tracking and reporting.
Experience

Minimum 15+
years of experience
in construction material management.

Experience working with a
main contractor on large construction projects
is required.

GCC experience is preferred
.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Arch
Engineering, Material Engineering, or Material Management
.
Professional registration such as
MMUP/UPDA
is an advantage.
