Mechanical Engineer – PTW (Permit to Work) – Qatar

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer – PTW is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing mechanical activities under the Permit to Work (PTW) system in compliance with Qatar regulations and company HSE standards. The role ensures all mechanical maintenance, installation, and shutdown activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved procedures.

Key Responsibilities:1. Permit to Work (PTW) Management

  • Ensure all mechanical works are carried out under approved PTW procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and authorize permits including:
  • Hot Work Permits
  • Cold Work Permits
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Work at Height
  • Isolation Certificates
  • Coordinate with HSE, Operations, and other departments for permit approval.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessments prior to work execution.
  • Ensure proper LOTO (Lock Out / Tag Out) implementation.

2. Mechanical Supervision

  • Supervise mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair works.
  • Oversee shutdown and turnaround activities.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves, pipelines, and rotating equipment are maintained properly.

3. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure strict adherence to Qatar Energy and industrial safety standards.
  • Enforce PPE requirements and safe work practices.
  • Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and site inspections.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.

4. Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain PTW records and logs.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  • Review method statements and technical drawings.
  • Ensure all mechanical documentation complies with project requirements.

5. Coordination & Communication

  • Liaise with HSE, electrical, instrumentation, and civil teams.
  • Coordinate shutdown schedules with operations teams.
  • Attend site meetings and progress review meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of experience in Oil & Gas or Industrial Projects.
  • Strong knowledge of PTW systems (preferably Qatar Energy standards).
  • Experience in shutdown and maintenance activities.
  • Familiarity with international codes such as ASME, API, and ISO.
  • Strong understanding of HSE regulations in Qatar.
  • Valid QID and transferable visa (preferred).

  • Good communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage)
