Medical Billing Specialist Job Summary:
Perform the duties required to ensure that all charging, receipting, billing and collection is completed in a timely and accurate manner. Follow-up with insurance carriers and patients to ensure prompt payment of claim and patient balance is received and posted to patient account.

Medical Billing Specialist Essential Accountabilities:
Review documentation for accurate charging and clean claim generation, working with providers, clinical and coding staff when questions, concerns and/or errors arise.
Generate and submit insurance claims daily. Work account aging reports to monitor for timely payments from insurance carriers.
Maintains acceptable levels of productivity in accordance with industry standards, best practices, and departmental policies and procedures.
Complete follow-ups with insurance payers, government entities and third-party liability payers to minimize payment delays.
Maintain all outstanding/unpaid insurance balances =/+ 90 days at a level of
Respond timely to insurance carriers’ information requests to assist in claim adjudication.
Adhere to the Hospital’s Corporate compliance Program by complying with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Attend in-service training programs, department meetings, workshops and seminars as directed by supervisor.
Other duties which may be assigned by supervisor.
Medical Billing Specialist- Other Skills:

Must be able to type proficiently with previous experience in data entry.

Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as insurance forms, insurance company regulations and procedure manuals.

Must be able to write routine correspondence and have effective oral communication skills.

Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages and balances due.

Must have ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Requires ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.

Able to operate a variety of equipment such as computer, phone, calculator, and printer/copier/scanner.

1-2 years of healthcare billing and/or posting office experience

Environmental Surroundings:

Potential exposure to airborne diseases. The same as for any individual working in a hospital environment that is dependent on a ceiling ventilation system for in flow and out flow of air.
