Medical Receptionist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. Your responsibilities will include managing patient appointments, verifying insurance information, handling medical records, and providing exceptional administrative support. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a thorough understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures. Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service and guiding them through check-in and check-out processes
  • Schedule appointments using various EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
  • Verify insurance coverage, process claims, and assist with billing procedures including medical collection efforts
  • Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation for completeness and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Handle multi-line phone systems with professionalism, answering inquiries and directing calls efficiently
  • Manage office tasks such as filing, data entry, and maintaining patient charts while ensuring confidentiality of health information
  • Assist with insurance verification, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) coding including ICD-9 and ICD-10, and documentation review

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft for scheduling and record management
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and Medicare guidelines
  • Proven experience in medical billing, collections, insurance verification, and care plan documentation
  • Excellent phone etiquette with the ability to handle complex inquiries efficiently using multi-line phone systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel for administrative tasks
  • Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively
  • Prior clinic or dental office experience is preferred to ensure familiarity with healthcare workflows and office management practices
