Medical Receptionist

Duties

  • Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and assist with check-in procedures using various Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
  • Schedule appointments accurately and efficiently utilizing medical scheduling software; manage multi-line phone systems with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance verification, and process medical billing and collections in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain and update patient records, ensuring accuracy in documentation review, coding (ICD-10, CPT), and medical terminology.
  • Assist with intake procedures, including collecting patient information, updating medical histories, and explaining clinic policies.
  • Manage front desk responsibilities such as filing, faxing, copying, and handling correspondence while maintaining a clean and organized reception area.
  • Support clinic operations by coordinating care plans, reviewing documentation for completeness, and assisting with administrative tasks related to medical office management.

Experience

  • Proven experience working as a Medical Receptionist or in a healthcare administrative support role within a medical or dental office environment.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing processes including insurance verification, Medicare procedures, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical collection practices.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; typing speed of at least 10 key digits per second is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive health information in compliance with HIPAA standards while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations.
