MEP Estimation Engineer

Position: MEP Estimation Engineer
Department: Estimation & Tendering

Reports To: Estimation Manager / Head of Estimation
Experience Required: 6+ Years in Construction / MEP Contracting Companies

Role Summary

The MEP Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity take-offs, tender submissions, and commercial proposals for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) works in construction projects. The role requires strong technical knowledge of MEP systems, cost analysis, vendor coordination, and tender management to ensure competitive and profitable bids.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quantity Take-Off & Cost Estimation

• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and project requirements.
• Prepare detailed quantity take-offs for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Fighting systems.
• Estimate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Prepare detailed cost sheets and pricing breakdowns.
• Analyze project scope and identify potential risks and opportunities.

2. Tendering & Proposal Preparation

• Prepare techno-commercial proposals and tender submissions.
• Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for quotations.
• Conduct comparison studies of quotations received.
• Ensure all tender submissions are completed accurately and submitted within deadlines.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required.

3. Vendor & Subcontractor Management

• Source and evaluate suppliers and subcontractors.
• Obtain competitive quotations for major MEP equipment and materials.
• Negotiate pricing to achieve cost optimization.
• Maintain a database of approved vendors and subcontractors.

4. Value Engineering

• Suggest alternative materials and systems for cost savings.
• Identify value engineering opportunities without compromising quality.
• Support the project team during budget reviews and technical discussions.

5. Technical Coordination

• Coordinate with Design, Procurement, QS, and Project Teams.
• Clarify technical requirements with consultants and clients.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain estimation records, bid documents, and costing databases.
• Generate estimation reports and management summaries.
• Track bid outcomes and maintain historical cost data.

Technical Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Fighting, ELV).
• Expertise in quantity take-off and cost estimation.
• Understanding of construction methods and project execution.
• Knowledge of local and international construction standards.
• Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings and specifications.

Software Proficiency

• AutoCAD
• Microsoft Excel (Advanced)
• MS Office Suite
• Bluebeam / PlanSwift (preferred)
• Revit MEP (preferred)
• Cost Estimation Software (preferred)

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Additional certifications in Estimation, Quantity Surveying, or Project Management are an advantage.
