The Associate Professor in Microbiology / Clinical Immunology is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, conducting impactful research, and contributing to academic and clinical service within the university. The role supports undergraduate and postgraduate education while advancing research in microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases in alignment with institutional and international academic standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesAcademic & Teaching
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions in microbiology and clinical immunology
- Contribute to curriculum development and integration into system-based or problem-based learning (PBL) models
- Supervise undergraduate, postgraduate, and research students
- Develop and evaluate examinations, assignments, and practical assessments
- Utilize modern teaching methodologies and digital learning tools
Research & Publications
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in microbiology, immunology, or infectious diseases
- Publish research in peer-reviewed international journals
- Secure research funding and grants
- Participate in conferences, seminars, and academic collaborations
- Contribute to institutional research output and rankings
Clinical / Laboratory Contribution (if applicable)
- Support clinical microbiology or immunology laboratory services
- Participate in diagnostic, infection control, and clinical advisory activities
- Integrate clinical practice with academic teaching (especially in medical colleges)
Administrative & Institutional Duties
- Participate in academic committees, accreditation processes, and quality assurance
- Contribute to departmental planning and academic development
- Support student mentoring, advising, and academic counseling
- Engage in community service and outreach programs
Skills & Competencies
- Strong expertise in microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases
- Experience in medical education (PBL, TBL, case-based learning preferred)
- Excellent research and publication record
- Strong laboratory and diagnostic skills
- Effective teaching, mentoring, and communication abilities
- Ability to work in multicultural academic environments
- Proficiency in English (Arabic is an advantage in Bahrain)
Qualifications & Requirements (Bahrain – Typical University Standards)
- PhD in Microbiology / Clinical Immunology or related field (mandatory)
OR
- MBBS/MD with specialization in Microbiology / Immunology (for clinical faculty)
- Minimum 4–6 years of university-level teaching experience for Associate Professor
- Proven research publications in indexed journals
- Experience in medical colleges or health sciences faculties preferred
- International academic exposure (UK/USA/Europe) is often preferred in Bahrain universities
Experience
- Minimum 8–10 years of combined teaching and research experience
- Prior experience at Assistant / Associate Professor level in a recognised university preferred
Preferred Profile
- Clinical background in microbiology/immunology (for medical universities)
- Active research portfolio with ongoing projects
- Experience in supervising postgraduate (Master’s/PhD) students
