Job Description:
Position Overview
- We are seeking for a Remote Network Engineer to provide hands-on engineering and troubleshooting support for its enterprise and cloud network infrastructure. This role requires a self-starter who can dig into issues, communicate findings effectively, and collaborate with architects and senior engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- The ideal candidate will have strong Azure networking experience, proven troubleshooting skills across enterprise technologies, and the ability to balance day-to-day ticket resolution with project work, upgrades, and long-term initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshooting & Support
- Act as the first point of escalation for complex network problems; diagnose issues and provide clear, actionable feedback.
- Troubleshoot performance issues such as network slowness, dropped Zoom packets, and bandwidth bottlenecks.
- Communicate effectively with end-users and IT teams, demonstrating structured problem-solving and proactive brainstorming.
Technology & Infrastructure
- Support Azure networking environment (95% migrated, full datacenter exit targeted by next year).
- Configure and manage Network Security Groups, VNets, UDRs, and Azure-native routing.
- Manage Palo Alto firewalls, Panorama, and Prisma Access; perform firewall upgrades and policy updates.
- Administer SD-WAN (SilverPeak), including tunnel builds, site-to-site VPNs, and IPsec connections to vendors.
- Support Cisco switches (Catalyst 4500, Nexus) and Meraki switches/access points in branch offices.
- Assist with network refresh projects, including transition to Juniper platforms.
- Support proof of concept migration from Cisco Call Manager to Microsoft Teams telephony.
Operational Duties
- Handle a mix of daily tickets and project assignments with strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Develop and execute proactive patching and upgrade strategies:
- GlobalProtect upgrades (2x annually).
- Firewall upgrades (4x annually).
- SilverPeak updates (3–4x annually).
- Participate in scheduled weekend change windows (approx. 2x per month, starting at 10 PM CT; 2–3 hours). Flex-time is provided for recovery.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering and support.
- Strong foundational knowledge of network troubleshooting and protocols.
- Experience with
- Palo Alto firewalls, Panorama, Prisma Access.
- Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, and Meraki switches/APs.
- SD-WAN (SilverPeak preferred).
- Azure networking (NSGs, VNets, UDRs).
- Site-to-site VPNs and IPsec tunnels.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain findings and collaborate remotely with architects and engineers.
- Strong documentation, organization, and follow-through skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to take direction and drive issues to resolution.
Preferred
- Experience with Juniper networking.
- Familiarity with Teams telephony migrations.
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, PCNSE, etc.)
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $48.00 - $57.00 per hour
