Job Overview:
A Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) driver provides safe, timely transport for clients requiring assistance to reach medical appointments without requiring emergency medical services. The role demands excellent customer service skills, a strong emphasis on safety, and compassion for passengers with mobility challenges or other health needs.

Responsibilities:
- Safe transportation: Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations when transporting individuals to and from medical facilities, rehabilitation centers, and adult day care centers.
- Passenger assistance: Help clients safely board and exit the vehicle. This may include assisting with wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and using a hydraulic lift when needed.
- Vehicle maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is clean, sanitized, and in safe working conditions. This may include checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and equipment.
- Route management: Follow assigned schedules and routes and keep dispatchers informed about progress, delays, or incidents.
- Record keeping: Keep detailed trip logs, including mileage, pickup and drop-off times, and passenger counts.
- Professional communication: Interact respectfully and empathetically with passengers, family members, and healthcare staff. A reassuring presence is essential for passengers who may be experiencing stress.
Experience:
- Valid driver's license: A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for the past 3 years are required. Must be at least 21 years old
- Certifications: Have or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Basic Life Support (BLS), Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance, and Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) certifications.
- Background check: We require a national background check and drug screening.
- Physical ability: The driver must be able to assist passengers with mobility issues and lift to 50 pounds.
- Interpersonal skills: Strong communication, patience, and a service-oriented attitude are essential for working with clients with varying needs.
- Vehicle requirements: Drivers will operate a company vehicle.
Work environment
- Work location: Usually on the road, with pickups and drop-offs at client homes, medical facilities, and other destinations.
- Work schedule: It usually includes daytime hours, with the possibility of weekend or flexible shifts depending on client needs and the company's hours of operation.
- Employment type: Can be full-time, part-time, or a contract (1099) position. Contract drivers are independent contractors who use their own vehicles and are responsible for their own taxes and expenses.
