Job Title: Part-Time Associate Librarian
Reports To: Director of Library and Innovation Lab

Job Overview:
Rumson Country Day School seeks a dynamic and knowledgeable Part-Time Associate Teacher Librarian to support a vibrant culture of reading, inquiry, and innovation. The ideal candidate will foster students’ love of literature, develop strong information literacy skills, collaborate with faculty across disciplines, and contribute to both the library program and the school’s Innovation Lab. This role reflects the evolving nature of school librarianship, integrating literacy, research, and STEM learning.
Key Responsibilities:- Library Program Administration: Maintain an organized, welcoming library environment through cataloging, circulation management, collection development, and inventory oversight.
- “Reader’s Advisor”: Guide students and faculty in selecting appropriate literature and resources that support independent reading, curricular goals, and diverse interests and abilities.
- Early Childhood Programming: Plan and deliver weekly Library Storytime and STEAM experiences for students in the Nursery and Pre-K programs, fostering early literacy, curiosity, and foundational inquiry skills.
- Information Literacy Instruction: Provide direct instruction in research skills, critical thinking, digital literacy, and ethical use of information, equipping students to be effective and responsible users of information for students in grades B-8.
- Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with N-8 faculty to design and implement lessons that integrate library resources, literature, and research skills into the curriculum across grade levels and subject areas.
- Innovation Lab Support: Assist with Innovation Lab classes and projects centered on the engineering design process and maker-centered learning. Provide instructional support that promotes creativity and problem-solving while demonstrating familiarity with age-appropriate STEM tools, materials, and technologies.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional learning to remain current in best practices in librarianship, literacy instruction, educational technology, and STEM integration.
Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited degree in School Library, Library and Information Science, Education, or related field.
- Experience working in a school library or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
- Demonstrated ability to teach research and information literacy skills.
- Familiarity with educational technology and maker/STEM tools.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Experience with interdisciplinary teaching and project-based learning.
Salary Range: $55-$60k
