Payroll Specialist

Pay: $21.25 - $26.25

About the Role

Join our Human Resources team as a Payroll Specialist, where you’ll play a critical role in supporting our employees and advancing our mission of service and inclusion.

In this role, you’ll manage and process multi‑state payrolls, ensure compliance with tax and employment regulations, and serve as a trusted partner across HR, Finance, and Leadership. What You’ll Do

As a Payroll Specialist, you will:

  • Process and review semi‑monthly, multi‑state payrolls with accuracy and timeliness
  • Ensure payroll cycles comply with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Manage payroll data in Paycor, including employee records, schedules, deductions, and benefits
  • Partner closely with HR and Finance to ensure accurate timecard processing and reporting
  • Process garnishments, wage assignments, and wage verifications in compliance with legal requirements
  • Audit payroll and timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare final paychecks for terminated employees
  • Generate recurring and ad hoc payroll reports
  • Assist with off‑cycle payments, adjustments, refunds, and direct deposit reissues
  • Support monthly audits between payroll and accounting systems
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy
  • Complete all required training and education in a timely manner
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the team

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent payroll experience
  • Experience processing multi‑state payrolls
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance
  • Prior clerical or office support experience
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Paycor certification a plus

Technical Skills

  • Paycor payroll expertise strongly preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll systems, and database management

  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities
  • Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and work with urgency
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Open to feedback, flexible, and highly organized
