We are recruiting for a Payroll Supervisor to oversee accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a large and complex healthcare organization. This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys leading people, owning processes, and serving as a trusted subject matter expert.

About This Role

As a Payroll Supervisor, you will oversee end to end payroll operations while supervising a small but highly impactful payroll team. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, maintain payroll data integrity, and partner closely with Human Resources, Accounting, Treasury, and Information Technology.

This role requires strong attention to detail, confidence handling complex payroll scenarios, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You will also play a key role in process improvement, system enhancements, and maintaining strong internal controls.

What You Bring

Education
  • High School Diploma required
Experience
  • 6 to 8 years of payroll experience

Preferred

Education
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor’s Degree
Experience
  • 10 or more years of payroll experience
  • Prior Team Lead or equivalent leadership experience
License Registration Certifications
  • Certified Payroll Professional or Certified Public Accountant

What You Will Be Doing

Payroll Processing and Compliance
  • Oversee all payroll functions for a 10,000 plus employee, multi state healthcare organization using Infor Lawson ERP
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations and reporting including 941s and W 2s
  • Lead issue resolution and communication with the Internal Revenue Service
  • Process garnishments, deductions, and support Human Resources with deferred compensation plans
  • Ensure accurate posting of non routine payroll adjustments through collaboration with department leaders
  • Maintain banking and direct deposit information and communicate payroll funding needs to Treasury
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll compliance and taxation
Team Supervision
  • Supervise a team of 2 to 3 Payroll Specialists in a largely self-managed structure
  • Provide training on payroll policies, regulations, and procedures
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, performance evaluations, and corrective actions in alignment with HR policies
Financial Reconciliation and Reporting
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and post journal entries
  • Review reconciliations and payroll work product for accuracy
  • Prepare and review payroll reports and transactions
  • Maintain and analyze complex Excel spreadsheets and large data sets
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll disbursement
Process Improvement and System Management
  • Stay current on federal and state payroll regulations and tax reporting requirements
  • Implement and maintain payroll best practices
  • Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls
  • Serve as subject matter expert for payroll system upgrades and conversions
Communication and Customer Service
  • Serve as the primary contact for complex payroll inquiries
  • Collaborate on internal and external finance related projects
  • Communicate clearly and effectively while managing multiple priorities and strict deadlines
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all levels of the organization, including senior leadership
  • Work independently with strong initiative and sound judgment
  • Represent the organization confidently when working with external partners and vendors

  • Adherence to critical payroll processing deadlines required
  • Occasional extended hours during payroll cycles, audits, or year end processing
  • Perform other duties as assigned
