Payroll Technician

Essential Job Functions:

(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Input of timesheets for employees; prepares bi-weekly payroll.
  • Calculates gross pay.
  • Prints payroll checks.
  • Sends direct deposits to clearing house.
  • Prepares payroll reports.
  • Pays bi-weekly and monthly bills (child support, garnishments, etc.).
  • Pays taxes, bonds, credit union, pension, insurance.
  • Create and maintain accounting codes within PeopleSoft HCM.
  • Reconciles payroll liability accounts.
  • Reviews and approves payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Balances payroll accounts with the General Ledger.
  • Updates payroll master fields to reflect changes in pay and tax rates.
  • Ensures compliance with Agency policies, bargaining unit contract, tax laws, and statutory requirements as they relate to payroll processing.
  • Manage records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for coordinating the records management effort within the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation Range: $21.90 - $32.84
